How Are You Backing Up One of Your Most Treasured Possessions, Your Pictures?

flicr-screenshot-b2I recently wrote about the importance of taking pictures and as part of that I have given some thought to how we take and store pictures. Most of us are using some type of digital camera. From there, we usually upload them to our computers. Where we WILL run into problems with this is when we have a computer problem and lose all of our treasured pictures, not to mention if you lost your images on your computer in a fire. When people lose their treasured possessions in a fire, the pictures are the one thing that they cannot replace.

“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”
― Karl Lagerfeld

I have found what is a great solution. I have revisited flickr looking for a better solution. Flickr has made some wonderful new changes along with the wonderful features they have already offered over the years. The Pro version is a real steal at only $25 a year. Here’s the scoop:

Flickr Pro is the best deal on the web for uploading and sharing your photos. No where else offers access to your original files, unlimited uploads, unlimited storage, and unlimited bandwidth for as little as $1.87 per month.

With Pro you get:

  • Unlimited photo uploads (50MB per photo)
  • Unlimited video uploads (90 seconds max, 500MB per video)
  • The ability to show HD Video
  • Unlimited storage
  • Unlimited bandwidth
  • Archiving of high-resolution original images
  • The ability to replace a photo
  • Post any of your photos or videos in up to 60 group pools
  • View count and referrer statistics
  • Limitation of maximum image size available to others
  • Ad-free browsing and sharing

Compare that to what you get with a Free Account:

  • 300 MB monthly photo upload limit (30MB per photo)
  • 2 video uploads each month (90 seconds max, 150MB per video)
  • Photostream views limited to the 200 most recent images
  • Post any of your photos in up to 10 group pools
  • Only smaller (resized) images accessible (though the originals are saved in case you upgrade later)

Whether you choose, flickr or opt to go with another method, please make it a priority to have an off-site backup of your most treasured possessions. Should anything happen, you will have the amazing relief of knowing your pictures are safe.

A Free (and WONDERFUL) Spiritual Resource – Free Bible App for Iphone, Android – Dramatized Bible Audio

Free Bible App, Iphone, Android, Audio, DramatizedA great Audio Bible app for the Iphone and Android phones. And it’s dramatized, too! This a a free Bible app that you do not want to miss. It will work for both iphones and Android phones, plus there is download version to listen on your computer.

I raised my children on listening and reading along to the dramatized version of the Bible. It was on cassette tapes back then.

These are going to be like 8 Tracks to their children. Oh my.

But now the SAME company, Faith Comes by Hearing, offers the dramatized Bible as a FREE app. We were talking about when we listened to the dramatized Bible every day when we homeschooled over the holidays and one of my sons and his wife now want to do this in their home, and it led me on the search to find CDs for them, but this was even better! I found the FREE Bible app! They love it! I love it! It’s wonderful having it on my phone. Even as more of a visual learner, the dramatized audio Bible version draws me in, and brings it to life. I get lost in the story when I am listening to it being acted out.

I love that we did this every day when they were growing up and taught them that their faith wasn’t just something they walked into a church building and practiced once a week, but it was a walk, a daily walk with God.

The Importance of Pictures…Together
{Day 3 of 365}

My brother. My best friend.

Kindred spirits.

I have many wonderful memories of him, but this is the only picture of us together.

This picture is priceless. He has been gone for almost 20 years now, and we do not have anymore opportunities to take pictures together again. This is it.

Never, ever, ever, ever pass up an opportunity to take pictures with someone you love. Never. Ever. Ever.

And if you want to know how many is too many to have, there is no such thing as too many. You will never regret a picture taken, only the ones you didn’t.

This year make taking more pictures together a priority. Pictures capture you together forever.

Which pictures do you cherish? Which pictures do you want to take this year?

The Things That Matter
{Day 2 of 365}

The heart and soul of  of that with which we surround ourselves.

The print in this image is a picture that my son took on a day that we made a beautiful memory traveling to the beach together to take pictures.  The things that matter.

Does your home tell the story of who you are? What do you have in your home that holds special value?
